Book Review: Business Plan Secrets Revealed

Book Review: Business Plan Secrets RevealedThe key to successfully starting any business is a good business plan. In his ebook, "Business Plan Secrets Revealed," Mike Elia walks you through the "business plan" process step-by-step: from gathering the evidence you'll use to build your plan to delivering your plan to qualified investors. His book provides the basic information you need to write a business plan. But its real focus is revealing how to communicate your plan to investors and convince them that your business is their best investment choice. When I first opened Business Plan Secrets Revealed, my heart sank. You see, I had promised Mike I would read his book completely before writing a review. And Business Plan Secrets Revealed is no ordinary ebook with one sentence paragraphs, large fonts and hefty margins. It's crammed full of information! But as I began to read, I was pleasantly surprised. Mike's writing style is engaging and practical, and his explanations simplify difficult concepts. Throughout the book, I felt as though a friend was sitting with me on the back porch, matter-of-factly explaining exactly how to do something. It's the kind of simple practicality that you can achieve only when you fully understand a subject. Mike's clear understanding of business planning concepts results from experience spanning more than 20 years. Mike helps business owners buy, sell and finance their businesses. He has overseen manufacturing and sales locations in more than nine countries. He is a CPA, holds a Masters in Business Administration, and has served as Chief Financial Officer of two publicly held companies. Business Plan Secrets Revealed starts with tips for collecting and organizing the information you'll need. From the beginning, Mike concentrates on overcoming your biggest single challenge--bridging the investor confidence gap. In the chapter "Show Me the Numbers," Mike provides some of the clearest explanations of business financial statements that I've ever read If concepts like stockholders' equity or statements of cash flow make your eyes glaze over, then your salvation has arrived. Later chapters of Business Plan Secrets Revealed really deliver on Mike's promise to help you communicate your business plan effectively. There are complete instructions on writing your business plan, including how to get your plan opened and read, and how to avoid nine common writing mistakes. He explains how choosing the right design can make your business plan easier to read. Mike wraps things up by telling you how to prepare for critical face-to-face time with investors, including developing a 60-second, to-the-point, verbal pitch for your business. Tips on finding investors and a resources section complete the book. I must admit that several times as I was reading, I would ask myself, "Do I really need this much business plan?" This is not a fill-in-the-blanks-and-print-it-out business plan solution. But then I realized--if I'm serious about succeeding, then I do need to know as much as possible about my business up front. Before I've started spending money. Before I put myself on the line out in the market. By the way, I did make it through the whole book. And I confirmed that Mike delivers what he promises on the title page: he teaches you how to quickly gather evidence, build a case for your business, and write a readable plan that attracts investors and makes your business the most appealing investment choice. Even if you already own other writing a business planning resources, I highly recommend Business Plan Secrets Revealed.

Condi: The Condoleeza Rice Story

Condi: The Condoleeza Rice Story

I had the satisfaction the other day of having finished a book. Yes, you would think that those of us who write for a living would be great readers. Some of us are, some of us arent. I probably am fairly well read overall, but that covers magazines, newspapers, articles, and the like for the most partespecially if they can be found online! My wife picked up a book for me this past Christmas and she hit it right on the mark Condi: The Condoleeza Rice Story. Written by Antonia Felix, the book traces the remarkable life of now Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice from her days living in highly segregated Birmingham, Alabama during the 1950s and 1960s through her years as an academic scholar, college professor, and university provost, all the way up to her present work with the Bush Administration. Written in 2003, the book still has Condi as National Security Advisor to the president, but in 2004 Condi replaced Colin Powell as the Secretary of State. The book delves into Condis life and doesnt hold back on much. No, not much to criticize about this consummate overachiever, rather plenty of praise for a role model who has triumphed in the face of overwhelming odds, let alone overwhelming adversity.Condi is not just a leading scholar, but she is an expert in Soviet {Russian} affairs, an accomplished pianist, and an avid football fan. Driven? Oh, yes! But, not in the possessed or obsessed sense of the word. As a black woman working in a mostly white male environment Condi has established herself on her terms and not on someone elses. Twice as good was the mantra passed down to Condi by her parents who believed that black children had to do everything twice as well as white children in order to be considered equal in a segregated society.I wont give all the details of the book away, but there are some highly interesting aspects about Condi that some people probably just dont know. Personally, I dont think Condi will run for president on the Republican ticket in 2008 as some desire instead, she aspires to be president of the NFL but whatever Condi chooses to do beyond her time working with President Bush will more than likely include breaking new ground and setting the trend for all who come behind her.

Rich Dad Poor Dad

Rich Dad Poor Dad

A lot of people have read Robert Kiyosaki's books (and he has a lot of them), but this is the one that started them all.I think what endears people to Rich Dad Poor Dad is the story. It seems to me that whenever a non-fiction book teaches with stories, it does very well. So, if you're going to write a non-fiction book, weave your info into a story. "Rich Dad Poor Dad" is the story of Robert learning the habits of the rich from his best friend's dad. Robert's own dad was a highly paid, highly educated government official, but who ended up poor (this is his "poor dad"). His best friend's dad was not highly educated, but he started lots of businesses, bought lots of real estate, and invested in stocks. He is "rich dad".Some lessons or themes that keep coming up: *School prepares you for a job while financial education prepares you for better financial habits that lead to a more prosperous life*The rich invest in ways that the poor and middle class do not*The rich invest in assets that produce class flow, and then reinvest that cash flow into other assets*The poor invest in liabilities, or things that take money out of their pockets*The middle class tend to go to school, get a job, buy everything on credit, get raises, then buy bigger houses and nicer cars, under-save and under-invest, and then retire on less than what they should have.*There are 3 kinds of income: -Earned income (what you make when you're there) -Passive income (money that comes to you when you're not there...that can come through businesses, real estate income, intellectual property, etc) -Portfolio income (money that also comes when you're not there...but specifically from stocks, mutual funds, and other such paper investments)As it turns out, Robert didn't go on to become a rich guy too soon into his adult years, like his best buddy did. Robert went into the Navy to learn how to sail ships, then to the Marines to fly helicopters in the Vietnam war. I might have the timeline wrong, but he he was a top-selling Xerox sales rep for several years. And then he went on to start a successful business importing/selling those Velcro nylon surfer wallets from the eighties. Remember those? After a few years, that business went bust.Eventually he made the jump into buying assets...income producing real estate...and within 8 to 10 years, he and is wife retired. Then six months later he came out of retirement to start his financial education business...which includes his books, board games, tapes, seminars, etc. In reality, it sounds like he's started a whole ton of other businesses too, but that's what I've pieced together from other books of his that I've read. Notice that most of his activities center around passive income? It's a great and easy read and should shock you out of your usual way of looking at money. Another one of his books that I like a lot is one he didn't even write by himself...aptly named "Success Stories". It's a collection stories by many of Robert's students that have taken his advice and who started businesses or are collecting assets that produce cash flow. There's so much more that can be said, but it's time for you to start the adventure of reading a new book. Try to think of "Rich Dad Poor Dad" as financial education; it will make the purchase that much easier to justify.

Requiem of Insanity: Book Review

Requiem of Insanity: Book Review

Debra Ulrich has explored a unique way of bringing some light to the journey of a medical patient in this nonfiction fairytale. I have to admit that the first 40 pages were difficult for me to get through - but in the end, the material is definitely worth reading and I recommend this book to anyone involved with heavy medication. This is a story of a woman (Queen Sara) and her son (Prince Max) who become locked into a medical-go-round due to trusting overzealous doctors who have their hands poised over prescription pads. Queen Sara followed the doctors blindly, as most of Western society is still trained to do. Side effects and reactions to the heavy long-term medication drove these two patients into being misdiagnosed with one disorder after another. Anyone with a serious health condition is quite familiar with strategically taking multiple prescription drugs throughout the day. However, just as each body can react differently to a disease or disorder we can also react differently to medication. Every pill, even herbal or over-the-counter medication, can have side effects. Multiple medication can be tricky due to cumulative effects of medication combining in the body sometimes becoming something else entirely. This makes the physicians job much more difficult.Synthetic drugs tend to give immediate results, but generally, they do not cure the disease/disorder. Instead, they mask it - while the cause of the problem still exists. Sara learned that though alternatives to western medicine could be quite helpful, they are not readily embraced by the doctors. She embarked on a long, expensive journey and dedicated herself to a strict health regime for years. Cleansing the body of built up toxins, food allergy tests, hair tests, herbal remedies, muscle tests, gaining nutritional knowledge and emotional work were all components in Saras healing process. The author closes her book with a spreadsheet of the drugs she has experience with, their known reactions and some possible alternatives. The last seven pages list contacts for associations that may prove helpful for those on a medical adventure. This story is an excellent example of how deficiencies and emotions can play a huge part on our overall health. As a closing, I would like to leave you with quote from Debras book "Patients must be treated as equal partners and need to be the ones ultimately responsible for their own health and welfare.ISBN: 1413728324Publisher: Publish America, Inc.Author: Debra Ulrich

Ferns Dragon: Book Review

Ferns Dragon is a wonderfully fun read that stimulates the imagination of both young people and the young-at-heart alike. It is a good mystery-fantasy story that is artfully composed.Fern is a bright, artistic young girl who is utterly fascinated with dragons. One day she created a masterpiece with beach sand and loved it so much that she was reluctant to leave her dragon, Nogard. When her mother brought Fern to visit Norgard, they were shocked to discover he was missing. Later that night, Fern is visited by Norgard, who begs for her help in saving dragon-kind. Little Fern finds herself leading the last of the race of dragons, following clues and trying to piece together a way to save the dragon king the only dragon with the power to stop the catastrophe about to fall. David Wills has done a superb job on this childrens book. His use of colors and visually stimulating words is sure to spark the imagination. The light ending will leave a smile on the readers face. I highly recommend this book to parents, as they are unlikely to become bored with their children begging to have the story repeatedly read to them. I know I certainly enjoyed it." Ebook Review: How to turn Auction Traffic into Cash!!!

EBOOK DETAILSFile Size: 1,071kb Zipped, 1,122b Unzipped.Number of Pages: 45Format: Adobe Acrobat (.pdf)Subject: A guide to using eBay traffic to create a lifetime customer base for virtually any business.Other Information: Can be bought with Jim Cockrum's other ebook "The Silent Sales Machine Hiding on eBay" as a discounted, package deal. ABOUT JIM COCKRUM (AUTHOR OF HOW TO TURN AUCTION TRAFFIC INTO CASH)The author Jim Cockrum, is a self confessed eBay freak. He also runs "Creative Ebay Selling," the Internets largest eBay success newsletter with over 90,000 subscribers and growing by the day. Jim has helped launch multiple internet businesses and has used the internet as his sole source of income since 2002. ABOUT THE EBOOKHow to turn Auction Traffic into Cash is Jim Cockrum's followup to the hugely successful "Silent Sales Machine Hiding on eBay." Just like it's predecessor, How to turn Auction Traffic into Cash is a guide to gaining massively from eBay's huge amounts of traffic. This time instead of using this traffic to promote Silent Sales Machines, Jim shows you how to use this traffic to build up your mailing list. eBay gets 1.5 billion page views per month, there are over 100 million members, and 80,000 people sign up every day, so it is one of the best but also most underutilised sources of traffic available to any seller. The topics covered in How to turn Auction Traffic into Cash include:The real power of eBay!!The rules of the eBay game!!Tapping into the power step by step!!A step by step guide to setting up your newsletter and subscription forms on eBay whilst complying with eBay policy!! Like with "The Silent Sales Machine Hiding on eBay" the main selling point of this ebook is that you can utilise the huge amounts of traffic on eBay to build up a mailing list. This amount of traffic would take a huge amount of time, effort, and money to gain using other means. If you are not currently building up a subscriber list then you are missing out on lots of benefits including repeat sales, increased trust in you as a seller, and a highly targeted source of traffic. However, like with Jim's last ebook, to implement the ideas in How to turn Auction Traffic into Cash means you will have to invest quite a lot of time and effort initially. It will also create additional expense for your business (in paying the autoresponder fees). Like I said in my review of "The Silent Sales Machine Hiding on eBay" if you are willing to put the time and effort in, then you will find this ebook useful. If you are not willing or ready to expand your eBay business in a creative and new dimension then this ebook is not for you. GOOD POINTSIf you are currently only selling on eBay and not following up on auction visitors, How to turn Auction Traffic into Cash lays wide open the huge opportunities you are missing out on.How to turn Auction Traffic into Cash tells you utilise eBay's huge levels of traffic, and build up a mailing list, (which in turn provides you with many benefits), whilst sticking to eBay policy. The ebook provides a step-by-step guide to setting up a newsletter system in your eBay auctions complete with screen shots. Even if you are completely unfamiliar with webforms you will find this guide easy to follow.Building up a mailing list of subscribers provides you with many benefits including customer loyalty, customer trust, a highly targeted source of traffic, and the ability to sell products outside of eBay (meaning no eBay fees).Once the webforms and followup messages are in place, building your mailing list is virtually automated. All you have to do is write the broadcast messages when you want to do a mass-mailing to your list. BAD POINTSTo build a mailing list requires additional monthly expenditure on an autoresponder service. If you are running lots of auctions they will all need to be edited to implement these ideas, which can be very time consuming. The growth rate of your mailing list when using these methods is slightly exaggerated in this ebook. HOW I HAVE GAINED FROM HOW TO TURN AUCTION TRAFFIC INTO CASHHow to turn Auction Traffic into Cash is the ebook that ked to me setting up my own mailing list. Prior to this I had been using eBay's basic Shop Newsletter tool which really cannot compete with a proper autoresponder service. Since I now run multiple websites as well as an eBay store, a newsletter is really the best way to communicate to all my visitors. Using the ideas in How to turn Auction Traffic into Cash I have been able to place web sign up forms on all my eBay pages as well as all my website pages, which has allowed me to maximise my subscription rate.
